Our November Business Spotlight features the art of home transformation with interior design experts Lisa Thomas and Cecilia James at Refreshed Spaces. Whether you're contemplating a complete overhaul or just a few updates, knowing where to begin can be the biggest hurdle. That's where Refreshed Spaces comes in, a beacon of design and creativity in Northeast Georgia, offering a broad range of design services that cater to your unique vision.

We had the pleasure of collaborating with Lisa and Cecilia, the dynamic duo behind Refreshed Spaces, on a special project at the Stonewood model home in highly sought after Oconee County. Their expertise shone brightly as they took on the built-ins and mantle, reimagining these spaces with a chic, modern twist perfect for the holiday season. The outcome is nothing short of breathtaking – a fusion of elegance and warm holiday cheer that transforms the space into a stunning yet cozy haven.

Join us as we explore this incredible transformation and gain insights into how Refreshed Spaces can elevate your home to a realm of style and comfort.

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself!

We have always loved working together. Cecilia was born and raised in Flowery Branch, which is where she still resides today. She has two adult children and recently welcome her first grandchild in July. Lisa was born and raised in Snellville, but currently resides at Lake Oconee with her husband and mini labradoodle, Booker.

Q: Tell us about your business / services

Refreshed Spaces is an interior design and consulting company. We offer a wide array of services. We support or clients through the new build or renovation process helping with selections or construction related materials.  We also work with clients who are looking to refresh their space with new furnishings and accessories. Our projects can be as small as one room or we can support clients with selections for their entire home.

Q: What inspired you to start your business?

We’ve been friends for over twenty years and have both always loved different aspects of design. For years both of our friends encouraged us to start a business. About 4 years ago a quick lunch in Athens to catch up turned into a conversation about looking for a creative outlet. That lunch quickly became a brainstorming session and our new business was born. We are having the time of our lives and could have never imagined what the business would grow into.

⭐ As the Christmas holiday approaches within just a few weeks, could you provide some guidance and tips on holiday décor for our community?

Q: What are some popular interior design trends for holiday decor this Christmas season?

Aside from traditional colors of the season like red and green, we are seeing a lot of deep jewel tones this year. Jewel tones with deep emerald, sapphire blue and regal purples.

Q: What are some of the must-have Christmas decor items or elements that can instantly elevate a home's interior?

Embracing the trends above is a stark contrast from traditional decor but it will give your home a rich and sophisticated look. A personal favorite is a flocked tree. You can purchase one or flock it yourself for a fun holiday activity with your family..

Q: Do you have any recommendations for unique and personalized Christmas gift ideas related to interior design or home decor?

Charcuterie or serving boards make excellent gifts. Who doesn't love a good Charcuterie board? One of our favorites is ETU Home. You can also purchase holiday shaped and themed boards everyone is sure to love and appreciate.  They are not only decorative and elevate any kitchen but they are functional too!

⭐ Apart from holiday-related topics, we would greatly appreciate your thoughts on a few general interior design questions!

Q: What are the latest interior design trends that homeowners should consider when revamping their living spaces?

Wallpaper has been one of the biggest trends we have seen this year. It's such a fun way to add pops of color to a room. You an add bold designs or classic textures. Either way, it elevates a room and puts a smile on your face every time you walk in the room.

Q: For those looking to list their homes for sale for a competitive price, what are some budget-friendly ways to refresh the look of a home's interior?

Declutter and depersonalize your space would be at the top of the list. It's a great time to clean out and donate items you are no longer using. Rearranging the furniture is something to consider as well. If you have an overcrowded arrangement of furniture that doesn't maximize the space, it could be a potential turn off for a buyer.

Q: What are the essential elements or decor items that can instantly transform a living space?

Choosing the right furniture for your space, neatly arranging it for a balanced and cohesive look are important. However, adding window treatments as well as rugs can have major impact on the overall wow factor of a room. Window treatments cozy up a space and rugs soften the room while adding color and additional textures.

Q: What’s good in your life?

We are abundantly blessed both personally and professionally. Cecilia has gotten into the holiday spirit more than ever with the addition of a new little one in the family. She’s looking forward to celebrating the baby’s first Christmas. Lisa loves living at the lake and hosting friends and family almost every weekend. Whether we’re headed out on the lake in warmer months or headed to Athens for football games in the fall, our house is always full of people we love.

Thank you for sharing your business with us! We enjoyed our collaboration and are grateful for your exceptional design expertise!
